Recycled Water Starts In July
Nearly 80 households at Lennox Head will have access to recycled water in July, in what Ballina Shire Council believes is a first for regional NSW.
Recycled water will initially be delivered to 77 new houses at Lennox Head for uses such as washing clothes, flushing toilets and watering the garden.
Services will then be rolled out to more than 600 new households at Ballina, East Ballina and Cumbalum.
Purple taps have already been installed at households set to receive recycled water, and householders will be contacted by Council before the start-up date.
Although the water has been treated to very high standards and is safe to use around the home, it was not suitable for drinking, cooking or bathing.
Tim Mackney, Manager, Water and Wastewater, recently announced the services placed Ballina Shire Council at the forefront of recycled water technology in regional NSW.
